Chimps (and gorillas, and orangutans, and gibbons) have 24 chromosome pairs, while humans have but 23, and the chromosomes won’t pair up right — there was a long period of experimentation into this in the USSR, during the Stalin “administration”.

There are two types of pandas, the Great Panda (which is the familiar one that looks like a giant stuffed toy) and the Lesser Panda, which may (or may not) be Asia’s closest living relative of the raccoon. The two panda types look similar but for size. The Great Panda is indeed a bear.

I’m not aware of any crossbreeding attempts using the Great Panda and one of the other bear species on Earth. That crossbreeding probably wouldn’t work, but it might be interesting to try. It would have to be artificial insemination one way or the other, because the Great Panda barely mates in the wild, much less in captivity.

Human chromosomes have different binding spots than those of the Great Apes. Theirs bind at the most common points, and ours at the least common points.

I"m sure the complete scientific explanation runs out of words with which almost all of us are familiar, but what that means is you can NEVER have a human/chimp hybrid!

It also means something really, really, really, really big happened several million years ago.

What do you think the chances are that a journalist made a mistake and/or isn't saying what you think they are saying?

The article goes on to say that polar bears and brown bears interbreed occasionally (much as coyotes and wolves occasionally do) and that this might be a “threat” to the polar bear in diluting what makes them unique.

In light of this I think what the journalist was ATTEMPTING to say is that these particular Brown bears are of 5 to 10% polar bear ancestry - much as some coyote populations are of 5 to 10% wolf ancestry.

So rather than being “SUNSABITCHES” that are “ALL GODDAM EFFING LIARS” - maybe the journalist was unclear in what they were attempting to say?
