Of course it doesn't add up. It's not possible to peek inside a mad man's mind and make sense of anything there.
I disagree. His actions were very organized and his motive was plain, being based on Heath Ledger's portrayal of "The Joker" in The Dark Knight. He gave himself up because he didn't want to be killed - not part of the plan. I don't know about giving up his booby traps. Maybe he judged that they hadn't worked as the distraction he had planned, so he thought he'd make it easier on himself by telling about it. Dunno. Anyway, I'm not buying "just nuts".
