Fedex and UPS find me and deliver packages wonderfully. USPS has yet to deliver an overnight letter/package/anything on time. And I have lived here 25 years. When we do get a package all they do is stick a note in the box to come pick it up the next day (thus negating the “overnight” issue). They won’t come down the drive to see if we’re here.

USPS is also the only company to take an overnight letter and keep it in their offices for several weeks, then return it to the sender. We have complained to the postmaster, who does nothing. We have determined that in order to work for this particular branch reading is optional.

Yes, amazing what can be done via a tax-free monopoly running an ignorable debt in the billions overseen by a board which refuses to raise rates to responsible levels.

If it were a private business the Left would have shut it down and jailed the CEO.

My local USPS and UPS seem professional and diligent in their work. My local fedex workers often seem like they played 36 holes that morning and then got stoned to the begeezus belt that afternoon.

I’ve posted my thoughts about this before. The postal service is one of the few activities that the federal government is clearly authorized to operate. I think it’s amazing that the postal people will deliver a letter from me to someone’s house on the opposite side of this continent for 45 cents. I don’t even want to guess what Fed Ex or United Parcel would charge for that service.

I’m usually pretty good at complaining about the federal government, but when it comes to the post office, I’m not complaining.

I ship stained glass panels. Always UPS, never a problem. Last time, I made a mistake at Office Depot and shipped it USPS. The glass arrived broken. Office Depot only handles insurance for UPS, so I filed an online claim at usps.com. One week later, I had my insurance $$$. Today, I needed to ship again and went to USPS- they earned a 2nd chance.

I think USPS is trying to have good service and since they are cheaper, I’ll go with them.

Have to call it a night, work tomorrow, like I said:

48 hrs, 1 lb package $5 bucks', still a good deal!

Because of so many fools in this country we might lose the Postal Service which is in the Constitution while retaining IRS, EPA, FDA, FCC, Dept of Energy, Education, and so on, none of which the Founders established. Congratulations “conservatives”!

Timely post.

I quit using UPS this month for all our retail accounts. USPS matches their delivery times, and usually beats them by days, plus (for now) delivers on Sat. A BIG plus for our smaller retailers.

Fed Ex ground was real good at first. Then the prices went up to UPS levels and the service went down to UPS levels.

I cannot count the times UPS let a package sit at the station rather than deliver it early. Yeah they get it there, but no sooner then they have to.

I like USPS. All revenue is from counter sales. The Fed screws it continuously.

I have sent at least 40 flat-rate boxes, loaded with all kinds of food and other items, to Iraq and Afghanistan at a cost of about $12 / box. (Most of these went to combat Marines at forward operating positions, ie., way outside the wire.) I know a lot of the transport was done by Marines but no matter how you cut it that’s a great deal.

The USPS made sure the boxes got to Iraq and Afghanistan.
For $12 each.

Books? USPS is generally pretty good in my area, but the occassional screw up can ruin a day - especially if you didn’t even realize the imprtant letter/package that didn’t get delivered was on the way.

I regularly ship USPS Priority Mail Flat Rate Boxes. And when I ship they give me the estimated delivery date. I can ship from Ohio to most anywhere in the country and it will be delivered the 2nd day, if not the first. I probably spend more than $100 a month with the Post Office...I like the service, and the counter people, and I have not had anything I shipped ‘lost’.

I have had an occasional problem with stuff sent to me via UPS...breakage.

In the late 1700s it was a marvel of the world to be able to deliver mail to every citizen who had an address.

Now, over 300 years later it’s just not necessary to have someone deliver mail to your house, except for packages. This can be done by any number of companies. It is no longer important for the government to provide this service.

License delivery services in counties and states and let them guarantee a weekly delivery if the person contacts them or there is a delivery for them.

Announce the USPS will go out of service in 7 years and steadily decrease the number of delivery days per week. The employees will have time to retire or seek work, perhaps with the private companies, if they can handle it. Sell off the post offices, land, and vehicles.

Interesting. I mailed an easter package to Tminusfours’s kids, priority about a pound and it cost me $11.50. :(

At least they got it.
