The dog was in the way of hot pursuit of 1 scumbag who ASSAULTED a man while stealing his car. Add to that that the dog seemed to be attacking, and it’s not shocking such a loose dog would be shot.
I don’t know all the details, but neither does anyone here. Although I seem to have seen more than some, so far. I certainly don’t jump to the assumption (you know what they say about that) that the cop is “just” a jack-booted thug.
The scum to blame here ultimately is the scum who beat up an innocent man to steal his car. He and his pals caused all this.

“Seemed to be attacking”, see, there is where I start questioning the “why”. Either it did or didn’t. The police report you claimed to have read, did it have just the officer’s pov or did it include witness statements as well? I’d be interested in knowing who, if anyone else, saw what happened.
I’m questioning the “why”. There have been way too many of these types of incidents. A “trend” is developing, yet many appear willing to overlook this fact.
Labs, Golden Retrievers, etc. shot in their homes, yards, etc. Why?
