This devastating photo tells the tragic story of a family dog, shot dead by a police officer as he pursued a robbery suspect on Sunday. Monkey got caught up in the chaos of a foot pursuit along Hodges Street in Lake Charles, Louisiana as officers chased teens believed to have beaten a man in a mall parking lot before stealing his car which they then abandoned. The dog was in a back yard on the street when she heard the commotion and ran out through an open gate.

You had written a fair and rational response to me earlier. I thank you. Hope it continues, but please do not drag me down as not being “rational” when all this points directly to my posts.
Orleans, let’s be fair. The dog was let out because a low-life scum opened his fence. The dog rightly chased after him once he realized this stranger was on his premises.
So, the dog WAS contained until unforeseeable circumstances changed it.
The owners are not at fault.
Hey - what if the scum had a gun, and shot the dog while being chased? How would that play here? (Hint: it would be a “hero dog” thread instead of “urban yute crook shoots dog”.)
You're joking right?
Why do cops carry multiple weapons, such as a baton, night stick, pepper spray etc, if they can't figure out the appropriate one to use? How complex is this?
Maybe it’s not that complex.
But running and being focused on where some scum is - maybe while trying to reach for a set of cuffs - could cause confusion on which small piece of equipment to grab.
If it’s not hard, and they already have it, I agree mace would be the best thing.
Yes; I’m so rabidly irrational.
Oh, will you just put a sock in it?
Trayvon was a veteran Fight Clubber who was trying to beat a "nosy Spic"'s head in.
WHOOPSIE!
As for the Statist label, I fault the rank and file police for going along the Police State agenda to get along, and to score the excellent pay, early retirement and great pensions that come with "just following the orders" of the Statist decision-makers.
They're mercenaries, unresponsive to the needs of the peasant rabble they supposedly "protect and serve".
I'm sure the woman whose dog was offed felt all warm & fuzzy after getting "protected and served" by a 40cal in a residential neighborhood.
As we saw above, if Hund the Police Kettenhund made a threatening move towards innocent CC holder Joe Peasant, and Joe dealt with the threat, The Law would be on Joe so fast it would make his head swim. Multiple felonies, easily.
So take your brass band elsewhere.
The devil’s in the details. Not the point.
The point is, people here jump all over a cop shooting a dog with the same vile assumptions (”completely unjustified cold blood!!!”) and rhetoric (”post his picture, post his address”). That is disgusting. That is not justice.
And, if I was on the jury, you’d walk.
Better yet, put the cops in stocks in the town square from sunrise to sunset for three days...
Apparently too complex for our $40-an-hour, retire-at-52-with-all-the-goodies heroes in blue...
I think we're arguing with one here. He seems to believe that it's OK for our police betters to kill peasant dogs like swatting flies, but don't you peasants touch "police officer" dogs, nossir.
Mailmen routinely pepper-spray and mace dogs.
The smart ones carry doggie treats......
I always like that movie.
