Danica Patrick crashes out with 17 laps to go at Daytona
Yahoo Sports ^ | 7-7-2012 | Nick Bromberg

Danica Patrick's fourth and final Daytona start in 2012 ended just like the first three; with a crash.

Patrick qualified third and spent most of the evening near the front, leading five times for a career-high 13 laps, and missed the race's 14-car pileup because she was at the head of the pack. It wouldn't have been a stretch to say that Patrick might have had the race's best car.

But 17 laps later, Patrick wasn't so lucky. Jeffrey Earnhardt went around off the bumper of Ricky Stenhouse ahead of Patrick, and Patrick, who was on the outside as the field exited Turn 2, darted to the inside to miss Earnhardt's car. But as she made her move to the left, she clipped the front bumper of a car and off she went towards the inside wall.

I'm just jealous because Danica can wreck a car better than me.

Restrictor plate racing - NASCAR’s way of giving the untalented a chance to run up front. Danica SUCKS!! 200+ professional racing starts and at the age of 30, she has ONE fluke, gas mileage win.

I wish they would go back to showroom stock cars. I just don’t care to see cars which are stock in no way except the way they look.

“Women drivers.”

Over-hyped drivers.

Fixed it.

(Basically 99% promotion, 1% driving ability - gender not part of the equation, other than for promotional purposes.)

I’m not a Danica fan, and especially her nutcase parents are noxious, but if you watched her race at Road America last week, she’s got talent.

I saw the TV ad for the next NASCAR race in New Hampshire. “Come see Danica Patrick and X-Games star...” Danica Patrick and X-Games star? How about the other NASCAR drivers?

but if you watched her race at Road America last week, she’s to talentWrong.

At Road America, what made her look good was her qualifying run. This gave her track position throughout the race. Road courses are all about positioning and strategy. She pretty much stayed in the same spot execpt for the numerous times she was passed and finally punted by Villineuve at the end.

You may have noticed that at last night's race, she wasn't getting behind anyone and pushing. This is likely due to her inexperience and lack of trust other drivers put in her.

She's overrated, overexposed and nothing but a marketing gimmick. There's a busload of more talented drivers out there that are not getting the chance in the sport because rather than putting the best product on the race track, we are only seeing the most 'marketable' drivers instead. Lame.

Agreed, she has what it takes to be on the track. She may not win but the same is true of 20 other series regulars.

And this has changed since 1947? Racing has always been a sport where money is huge. Some get it from sponsors, some from personal wealth, some from performance.

Clearly, not enough talent.

Danica isn’t a skilled race car driver, she’s a personality.

Top 5 all day until froggie boy crashed her out.
That’s talent in my book.

Certainly nowhere near the best but if Dale Jr and Smoke are willing to take Bob Parsons $$$$$$$ to put her in a program, I’d say she’s good enough to be on the track.

Anybody that has five top 10 finishes in the Indy 500 qualifies as a skilled race car driver.

You can debate the level of her talent, but she’s qualified to be on the track.

A busload of more talented drivers that haven't learned one of the most basic lessons of all: sex sells.

You can by all the pretty race cars you want, but if you suck on the track, you're just making laps.

Danica is nothing more than a marketing ploy. Marketing ploys make for crappy racing. I look forward every week to watching her crash, that's all.
