Don’t end up with seven liberal Supreme Court justices. Hold your nose and vote for the Republican.

And you can end up with a Supreme Court that looks like the Massachusetts' Supreme Judicial Court, all liberal! MA had GOP governors from 1991 to 2006, including of course Mitt Romney (2002-2006).

It appears you don't know very much about the Massachusetts legislature as most Freepers probably don't either. I think I can help you as I live next door in New Hampshire and have been observing their politics since the early 1960's, mostly through Boston talk radio, starting with the late Jerry Williams and continuing with Jean Burns and now Howie Carr. The Mass. Senate has four(4) Republicans out of a total of 39 members. The Mass. House has about 160 members and about 80% are Democrats.

Republican Governors in Mass. have no chance of appointing a conservative to any post that requires legislative approval. At best, the Governor can only choose the least liberal alternative. Republican Governors in Mass. have no chance of sustaining a veto on any bill if the Dems are unified.

If my memory serves me correctly, and I believe it does, Romney opposed gay marriage at every opportunity and appointed the least liberal judges acceptable to the legislature. He was better than Bill Weld (previous Republican Governor) in every way I could measure from the next state over.

Howie Carr is Boston's best conservative voice, and he is supporting Romney.

So... I understand your point about Massachusetts being liberal, but I cannot blame Romney for that and suggest you reconsider your opposition to him on that basis.

There are enormous, important differences between the Massachusetts state system for choosing Supreme Court justices and the federal system. Also the Massachusetts legislature has a very different political composition than does the U.S. Congress. Finally, the population of MA skews much more to the left as compared to the US population as a whole.

If you have a sincere interest in understanding what sort of justices a Pres. Romney might appoint, it would be a good idea to learn something about these differences.

You can find this information right here on Free Republic. It has all been explained here time, and time, and time again.

Yet for some reason it is still quite common to find FReepers who assume that what happened in Massachusetts will happen again nationally if Romney is elected President. The reason for this discrepancy remains officially unexplained.
