I actually did leave a mostly liberal site with an “opus”. The title was, “It’s time to go”. I did it the day after Obamacare was signed into law. The content was this:
With minor fanfare, I left Open Discussion (OD) a few years ago when finally realizing how utterly juvenile it is. Not that that is a bad thing, but I was around 50 at the time. It is not a place for a self respecting adult to hang around, and there were too few good political discussions.
Then Political Forum was created. I’ve enjoyed this immensely. However, it too got a bit juvenile, but nowhere near as bad as OD. Unfortunately, due to yesterday’s vote and complete raping of the American people via massive corruption within the ranks of our own representatives, I feel the time for arguing this and any other federal government issues has passed. A wise man chooses his battles. It is time to fully focus on my action plan (self sufficiency in Kentucky).
This vote, for me, was not about taxes. It was about federal government intrusion into private lives and businesses. I’ve had to deal with SOX, ADA, Tax laws and all the other government intrusion and seen the HUGE departments within private industry that exist solely to work with and meet government regulations. And then there are the hoops through which the average citizen must jump to simply live out their lives. And it just got mind-bogglingly worse on Sunday.
I expect this to be struck down in the SCOTUS, but that is not the point. The simple fact that we have such a corrupt abomination as membership in our representation which I can no longer respect - at all - forces me to move off the grid. I can no longer, in good conscience, participate in such a system. The political solution has worked out exactly as was reported to be said by Alexander Fraser Tytler.
A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world’s greatest civilizations has been 200 years.
Great nations rise and fall. The people go:
from bondage to spiritual truth,
from spiritual truth to great courage,
from courage to liberty,
from liberty to abundance,
from abundance to selfishness,
from selfishness to complacency,
from complacency to apathy,
from apathy to dependence,
from dependence back again to bondage.
Snopes and various other sources say it is not from Tytler. No matter. It has proven, and is proving, to be absolutely true. The solution is not political. That is clear. I have chosen a non-violent, but non-political path that will solve the problem, at least for myself and those I know and love. It is the most one man can really do.
Our forefathers, to build this once great nation and establish it’s defining constitution, not only risked their very lives. More importantly, they risked their comfort. That is something over which despots have no power. I have risked my comfort. Eventually I may risk my life as well. But that time has not yet come, and may never come.
To everything there is a season,
a time for every purpose under the sun.
A time to be born and a time to die;
a time to plant and a time to pluck up that which is planted;
a time to kill and a time to heal ...
a time to weep and a time to laugh;
a time to mourn and a time to dance ...
a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing;
a time to lose and a time to seek;
a time to rend and a time to sew;
a time to keep silent and a time to speak;
a time to love and a time to hate;
a time for war and a time for peace.
I’ve enjoyed much of the discussions here and even enjoyed the arguments made by many with whom I disagree. I’ve even had my position change no small number of times.
Thanks, and I wish you the best. In fact, my prayer is that every one with whom I have sparred on this site respond to the knock at the door and accept Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior. Only there do any of us find the true freedom, unconditional love, and peace that all rational men pursue.
Who is John Galt? He is many of us. He is me.
I'd been doing double-agent duty there for some months and wrote an Opus for all the DU whiners to choke on. I also posted it HERE on FR for anyone interested.
