For a few presidencies now I recall media mentions (in general terms) of attempts on the life of a president. It seemed to me that numbers increased over the years.
I can't tell if when they said that more attempts had been made on Clinton than any prior president, if it was due to the man in office or changing times.
For Obama there has been very little mention of assassination attempts even though they're to be expected.
Last I heard that for safety purposes he'd stopped announcing destinations until he was ensconced there.
Given this knowledge, plastic cutlery at a gathering of such note is a frightening clue to the reality of such threats.
