IMHO, he was a pawn in the control of the race hustlers. He was used and thrown away when no longer useful. I suspect the whole mess hindered his attempts to overcome his addictions. May he rest in peace now.
That is exactly it. The used him when they needed him, and then cast him aside when they were done.
