My wife was interviewing several WWII Army Nurses. After being in Europe for a couple of years one told a story of how she was being sent home because things were starting to wind down.

She was on a desalinization ship and had the opportunity to take her first good long hot shower in a long time, when all of a sudden she heard a terrible commotion. She was afraid the ship was being attacked. She grabbed her robe and stepped out on deck to see what was going on. First one soldier grabbed her and kissed her, and then another, and another. She said that by the time all of the kissing stopped she couldn't find her robe anywhere.

The other two old army nurses didn't bat an eye. One of them asked calmly, “Did you ever get your robe back?” She replied, “No.” The third nurse said, “Oh that is too bad! Those were really good robes.”

My wife who is normally quite talkative... didn't know what to say.

It was VE Day. The war in Europe was over.

I am sorry it was sailors from the ship not soldiers kissing her on VE Day.
