This is interesting -- Greece and Israel have aligned, mostly over the fields off Cyprus but partly over Turkish repudiation of its previous good relations with Israel; Turkey has given sanctuary to Syrian refugees including the FSA and has rattled sabers about those fields; Russia's backing the brutal Assad dictatorship and supporting Greece and Greek Cyprus; the Gulf states (by and large) want Assad out, but even moreso want to separate Greece and Israel, and don't want Turkey and Iran to go back to breaking bread together. Thanks for that update on the complicated cross-currents of alliances in the Meditteranean.
Turkey is too powerful to be ignored, or slapped into line, but I don’t think they can just enlarge themselves at the expense of Syria and Greece.
