WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Finally, there is definitive proof: The presidential candidate was born in the United States, and his father was not.
Yes, Republican Mitt Romney appears eligible to be president, according to a copy of Romney's birth certificate released to Reuters by his campaign. Willard Mitt Romney, the certificate says, was born in Detroit on March 12, 1947.
His mother, Lenore, was born in Utah and his father, former Michigan governor and one-time Republican presidential candidate George Romney, was born in Mexico.
So on a day when real estate and media mogul Donald Trump was trying to help Mitt Romney by stirring up a new round of questions about whether Democratic President Barack Obama was born in the United States, Romney's own birth record became a reminder that in the 1968 presidential campaign, his father had faced his own "birther" controversy.

Just wanted to add that it’s very funny that Romney releases the same day that the Obama campaign has a meltdown demanding that Romney disavow Trump for being a birther. This is like a direct slap in the face to Obama.
What I find fascinating is Trump’s going out and making all this birther noise again at the precise same time that Romney is revealing that he presumably has dual citizenship eligibility.
The narrative may be that Trump can’t be controlled, but this sure makes it look like he can be coordinated.
Newt Gingrich will be the only true Natural Born Citizen left standing, (none of the others are) so he will be President. Can’t wait for the Florida convention and the inauguration.
Newt will also have standing to legally challenge all the other candidates. He is so smart.
Ref. your post #4.
You are correct.
You spoke for me.
Thank you.
But there is a 3rd question you left out: Did George ever become a U.S. citizen?
If the intent of the founding fathers was to insure a candidates birth-allegiance *only* to the US, then the commonly held definition at the time (per Vatel)of “Native born” was *reasonably* defined as “Born on sovereign soil of two citizen parents.” Given that very simple, straight forward definition, it seems to me that the parents aren’t required to be “native born” themselves, just US citizens (of whatever class) at the time of the candidate’s birth.
So the questions to be asked about Romney’s birth qualifications is:
Were Romney’s parents both US citizens of any class at the time of his birth, regardless of their origins?
Was Romney born on sovereign US soil?
actually, after checking wiki, George was born to 2 US parents living in mexico
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_W._Romney
thus, he was an American upon birth. he could also claim mexican citizenship, as he was born in mexico. thus, George Romney wasn’t a NBC
Mitt Romney, having been born in detroit to 2 US citizen parents, is a natural born citizen and is therefore Article 2 eligible
this basic standard MUST be applied to ALL POTUS and VPOTUS candidates
(thus making Rubio and 0bama ineligible for the ballot... regardless of last election)
“Mitt Romney, having been born in detroit to 2 US citizen parents...”
The questions I am asking myself are:
1. Was George Romney an American citizen at the time of Mitt’s birth?
2. Did he EVER become a citizen of the U.S. as everyone assumes right off the top that he had?
And here is a bonus question:
3. Are politians liars?
George was born to TWO US citizens... therefore he was a US citizen at birth. he wasn’t a NBC as he was born on mexican soil, but that doesn’t matter
MITT Romney, born on US soil to TWO US citizen parents, is a natural born citizen
exceedingly simple concept blurred only by the brain dead left
Father? Grandfather? Great-grandfather? I've never seen anything to suggest that anyone in Mitt Romney's polygamous heritage renounced U.S. citizenship but I'd be interested in seeing it if you have it.
In early 1885, Miles Park Romney, Mitt Romneys great-grandfather, and his (then) four wives fled St. Johns, Arizona, to avoid arrest by federal marshals for polygamy. However, they fled to Salt Lake City instead of Mexico. There, according to Romney family history, the President of the LDS church advised Romney to flee to Mexico.
My information comes from award-winning LDS historian Todd Compton, who has written an article about Mitt Romney's polygamous heritage that doesn't mention a renunciation of U.S. Citizenship. Compton considers himself a 'faithful' LDS historian and a faithful Saint, although much of his well-sourced historical writing would not past the 'faith-promoting' test of the late LDS Apostle Boyd K. Packer.
Again, I'd be interested in anything you have to support a renunciation of citizenship.
George's father, Gaskell Romney, wasn't a polygamist either.
You have to go back to Mitt's great-grandfathers before you'll find polygamists. Using the Romney surname, that's Miles Park Romney, Gaskell's father and Mitt's great-grandfather. He had five wives (and thirty children).
But George Romney's father wasn't a polygamist.
BS>>>>BS>>>>BS>>>>BS Needs be born on US soil. Romney not qualified! He is not a NBC.
Nonsense. My daughter was born in Germany, and would be eligible to be president.
About five.
George Wilcken Romney was born in Colonia Dublán, Mexico in 1907. His parents, Gaskell and Anna Pratt Romney, left Mexico in 1912.
1912 was a fairly common date for LDS repatriation due to the Mexican Revolution, which had started in 1910.
Was Mexico granting citizenship to anchor babies in 1908?? Do they recognize anchor baby citizenship today????
Wasn't George an American citizen at the time of his own birth -- both parents being U.S. citizens regardless of the fact that he was born in Mexico??? -- an American citizen, not a natural born American citizen.
Déjà vu? Trump did the same thing.
Where you under military orders? If not then no your daughter is not a NBC and can not serve as president.
George could also claim Mexican citizenship, as he was born in Mexico. thus, George Romney isn’t a NBC.
Does not George have to declare for one or the other as an adult? And did he do so before Mitts birth? Was that necessary or not for Mitt to be a NBC? And it’s not like Wiki ever gets anything wrong is it? /s
Not unless Mexican law permitted it and I doubt that Mexico recognized anchor baby citizenship in 1908 or today, unlike its loony neighbor to the north of it.
A strict reading of U.S. v. Wong Kim Ark would reveal that the U.S. didn’t recognize anchor baby citizenship either ... at least not until the Immigration and Nationality Act in the 20th century, which may have some loopholes. Otherwise, the court said that the 14th amemdment only confers citizenship if the parents have permanent residence and domicil ... which means the parents had to have been legally admitted into the country as permanent residents.
