In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
chrestomathy \kres-TOM-uh-thee\ , noun
A collection of selected literary passages.
Example sentences:
I had learned to read Sanscrit and to translate easy passages in the chrestomathy, and devoted myself with special zeal to the study of the Latin grammar and prosody.
-- Georg Ebers, The Story of My Life from Childhood to Manhood
This little chrestomathy preserves almost the only words of Atticus to have survived from antiquity.
-- Peter White, Cicero in Letters
Etymology:
Chrestomathy literally means "useful to learn" in Greek, from the roots chres- meaning "to use" and math- meaning "to learn."
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....

Does your dog have a tire pressure monitoring system, too?
No, but he has recently lost a little weight in the undercarriage.
I’m so glad your puppy was neitered without a hitch-he will be a wonderful pet-whenever I find that a cat I adopt is to certain types of people I always wonder if someone is missing them and mourning their loss-Titus is such a cat-he loves women, and will self-invite and sit on my lap or my daughter’s for hours, but does not care for men.
I think the reason I dislike Nixon so much is that he was the first president I voted for, and I was really disillusioned-hated the things he was involved in-I was young and idealistic then. But I’d love to hear about your friend’s dad.
It is annoying to have someone burn you when you are idealistic. That makes perfect sense.
Overslept. Classroom up in a few minutes.
