yinz prob already know but i have definitively determined that although today is 40 days after Easter, Ascension is not celebrated today but rather, at least in the Arlington diocese, on Sunday.

There is a sign in the church parking lot to remind everyone that Ascension will be celebrated on Sunday here, too.

I was sad to hear that Donna Summer succumbed to cancer after a long battle. One of mine and my daughter’s favorite funny memories involves daughter as a youngster, and her best friend listening to a Donna Summer album on a trip to New Mexico with my first husband and I to visit relatives and go skiing.

It was late at night and my husband was taking his turn driving, and my daughter and her friend were in the back of the suburban listening to a Donna Summer tape. We were somewhere in the deserted area between Pecos and Orla on 285, and it had just started snowing a bit, when we noticed that the kids were playing “Bad Girls” again and again-and yet again.

I said okay, kids, time to turn that off, roll up in your blankets and let us listen to our music (there was no radio reception way out there). They complied, we put on a tape of ours and started singing along to AC/DC. In the background, we heard the girls quietly chanting “beep beep, toot toot”, and we told them to shut it down several times, but they kept it up.

After awhile, my husband practically slammed on the brakes, pulled to the side of the road and said listen you two, one more beep beep, one more toot toot-and you will be out of this truck and walking all the way to Ruidosa in the snow.

My daughter and I still laugh about that every time we talk about the family trips we took.
