Anyone notice Guinness tastes different? It seems to me when they stopped using the "widget" in their bottles, the flavor changed. It now has a slightly sour aftertaste.
A year ago or so I was asked to leave an irish pub when I got into a huge argument with the bartender. I told them their Guinness keg was crap after taking one sip of a draw and I told them I wanted my money back. They gave me my money and I was escorted out.
But now I tasted guinness(bottles) last friday for the first time in a year and realized its the same taste. Slightly sour aftertaste. They changed something. I can't drink it anymore.
They still make Hamm’s??
No, I was stationed at Menwith Hill Station (GOOGLE it) from 1969-1974. I’d only passed through LHR going in and out of Africa in the 80s. I was appalled, APPALLED I tell you, to see Budweiser on draught at the airport. What were they thinking? I’m not familiar with either brews you mentioned, but English beer is very regional. Each area has its own, and the further north one goes, the better it gets. I discovered Smithwick’s while in Ireland ten years ago and was delighted to find it on draught at a local Irish pub here.
I like em better that Guiness any day. Plenty o hops for that sleepy red eye.

I would’ve asked to see what’s upstairs and then compare prices.
I just found that out by searching for Schlitz original recipe. Looking for a six pack is on my to-do list.
It’s been quite a few years since I’ve seen Hamm’s but I remember it as being more than drinkable.
RIGHT! But after drinking some SKA, she may not want to continue smelling you! (Ya never know, either way, and that's a shame.)
smithwicks is too sweet for my gullet. I generally dislike german and belgian beer, like czech lager to a degree, and certain ales of the british isles are to die for...says my taste buds. Beer is something that is extremely variable and mysterious. Two people will not taste the same beer and have the same experience.
While I do love the “good stuff”, I just finished mowing the lawn and this cold Miller High Life is tasting mighty good right now.
My rules:
Cold
Free
MacAndrews Scotch Ale was my favorite. (hot or cold) Caledonian Brewery.
Leftover Pelosi swamp water. (Where, exactly, did you think it went?)
I COMPLETELY understand the COLD part. When are you free?

Guinness is my favorite, but I will only drink it on tap. Out of the bottle or (sacriledge) can and it has a much harsher flavor.
I can’t say I’ve noticed a change though, but a lot of little things can happen that could account for it.
Ugh! I tried it once. The only beer I ever poured down the drain. I wouldn’t give it to Khalid Sheik Mohammed. I drink Yuengling and Sierra Nevada.
To this day, I cannot read that name without seeing that bear and hearing the jingle in my mind's ear-
"FROM THE LAND OF SKY BLUE WATERRRRS..."
