RAVENA -- New York State Police say they caught a man on a motorcycle doing nearly 170mph on the Thruway on Tuesday.
Troopers say spotted 25-year-old Nikkolaus McCarthy of Charleton near Ravena, gave chase, but broke it off soon after.
State Police caught up with him later in New Paltz when he ran low on gas. He was arrested and faces a slew of charges.
When he was taken into custody, McCarthy told officers he was capable of going even faster.

I suspect for relax time he plays Russian Roulette.:)
LOL!
:) Nephew recently bought a bike from a police impound that had been clocked at 176. It too had run out of gas. It’s usually how they catch them. I’m not sure why this story is national news. What are we turning into? I’ve got four bikes now, but they’re all cruisers and dual sports.
Where i crank my bike there is a 6 ft concrete barrier for 12 miles between the east/west traffic and very little traffic.
zip!
I am not advocating it, but I have to p;oint out that at high speed vehicles going 60 mph are essentially stationary objects. The laws of physics prevent them from doing things that are too unpredictable.
I really do believe that if there were NO “to serve and protect” team out there the statistics would not change appreciably. The sheep just have to have the occasional presence of the “representative of the gummint” on the streets to keep them in their place. IMHO.
Years ago I saw an online video of them cleaning up a guy clocked at 160 mph who crashed; head, torso, arms, and legs all in different places.
These guys blow by me all the time as I cruise along on my HD Road King.
I don’t ride, but some folks I know do and go fast out on the straight, deserted roads of Eastern Washington State. I have heard them be concerned about the odd piece of gravel on the pavement at those high speeds.
When i lived in Canada there was/is a 50 mile strech of the 401 hwy between Kitchener Ont. and Toronto Ont. the cops let be known would’nt be patroled for speeding during rush hour, traffic flows at approx 100mph with absolutely zero increase in major accidents.
He is definitely very good since going at such speeds in tight traffic where all sorts of permutations and probabilities can occur, such as a car veering or a side mirror that is jutting out a tad bit, requires a very high degree of skill. Otherwise he would have crashed the first time he tried to make that video. Most motorcyclists wouldn't be able to even make one video like that even if they wanted to. He is a great rider. However, he is also foolish since there are so many other factors operating beyond his control. All it needs is for a car to veer onto him, or some rubble on the road, or any number of events that can happen and in the process convert that cyclist into a human cannonball. Every single car he passes at that speed is an exercise in cumulative arithmetic progression (maybe even geometric progression), and his control over many of those factors is very limited no matter how good he is.
There was also another rider (dressed all in black, European but not Russian) who used to do similar stuff. This chap however would race on highways, and he used to bait cops. I believe his videos were titled 'ghost rider' or something like that. I also wonder what happened to that guy.
When you mention bumps at high speed consider my favorite sport,i and friends consistantly hit speeds of 60,70,80 mph on these types of trails.:)

Good diagnosis. Shape of head and chin is classic FAS.
The one on the left has a watch on, so he can tell time?
We have potholes with their own zip-codes here in upstate NY.
Thankfully, every spring the state road guys repair them by filling them with sand.
Welcome to FreeRepublic.
I understand it says he ran out of gas, but how in the world did they catch him?
If Obama had a son...
