In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
numen \NOO-min\, noun
Divine power, especially one who inhabits a particular object.
Example sentences:
This liquid flowing up his arm and out of the other was numen, the divine substance, the sacred spirit that lives in a certain place in the body and sustains us all.
-- Jonathan Carroll, White Apples
He was now fairly confident that a shrine, unlike a temple, would contain no resident numen.
-- Dave Duncan, Present Tense (Round Two of the Great Game)
Etymology:
Numen is derived from the Latin word nūmen meaning "a nod, command, or divine will or power."
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....

Excellent! A+ for you.
Those dogs look like they just heard Obama was coming over for dinner.
I ROR’d! Dogs are great.
that little one is obv wagging its tail saying, what? is something wrong???
Good luck (but not too good.) I'll look for you in the crowd. Wear something red so you'll stand out.
It took a great deal of composure to snap the pic instead of screaming “What have you done?”
oh i meant to tell you xshub and i were talking about her yesterday and he said that given her CV, it’s almost a certainty that she only got hired on to Harvard faculty bc of the minority status, specifically amer ind. not woman. Her academic career was pedestrian. I forget where she went undergrad, but RUTGERS law school? third tier at best, and her first teaching job was at the U of Houston law school, which was barely accredited at the time. AND she went directly from U of H to harvard? xshub said there would never been any other professor at harvard with that career trajectory given those academic credentials. the minority status is the only explanation.
It’s also how some people springboard to the presidency.
i know you do ; )
We’re wondering who they will have on Friday night.
You are so clever. A+ for you. Did you watch our boys last night? Goose had a good game.
we have discussed it before but, hootenannys and hockey, in my mind, do not mix. the idea of musical acts at hockey games just doesn’t appeal to me. makes sense for Nashville, i guess, bc that is the industry that is in your town.
Nashville is Music City and it makes sense to have entertainment between periods, which always includes live music on the bandstage. Having good music is hardly equivalent to a hootenanny, which I have never attended, and we have all kinds of music here. Don’t knock it unless you’ve tried it. You don’t have to be in the music biz to appreciate it, although our area has a pretty good proportion who know it.
Sorry, I noted the end result but only caught a bit of the NYR-WAS game before hitting the sack early w/ a bug (probably, all the better ;)
Glad you’re back in it, hope you can square things in Gm 4...
