BOSTON (CBS) Former NFL linebacker Junior Seau was found dead in his home in Oceanside, Calif., on Wednesday, according to TMZ.
TMZ reported that Seau shot himself.
The report said that police and the coroners office were called to Seaus home to investigate a possible shooting.
The report says that police and the coroners office are investigating a scene inside Seaus home, though the details are still unclear.
Seau was in the news in 2010 for driving his car off a cliff after an alleged domestic dispute.
Seau, 43, spent 20 seasons in the NFL, most recently playing for the New England Patriots from 2006-09. He was a 12-time Pro Bowler and 10-time All-Pro.
Fight on forever, Junior!
I wonder if steroid use was a contributing factor.
Of course, it could have been nothing more than just a player not being able to handle life after football.
One guy I would really be worried about in that area is T.O., he is so desperately trying to hang onto a football career playing for an Arena-League team, I really fear for him once he realizes it’s over....he already had one suicide attempt when he was with the Cowboys.
That was Shawn Merriman. Seau was never involved with Tila Tequila.
Shocking and terribly sad.
Good point. We shouldn’t race to conclusions about concussions. Being a conservative, I draw no conclusions without evidence. It’s possible, but far from certain, that concussions were a factor.
You are right. It was Merriman. I kept seeing links mentioning Junior and her, but they are obviously in error.
I thought Tila played for the other team.
I wonder if steroid use was a contributing factor.
...so do I. Looking at those arms, that is the first thing
that came to mind. Doesn’t mean there is any truth to it, just saying.
concussions....
Tequila admits to batting from both sides of the plate.
I didn’t know that.
I’m watching the local news here in San Diego. JR’s mother is on the scene and they had to provide a chair for her as she wailed. What a selfish and hurtful thing to do to your elderly parents.
<P<Whatever peace he was looking for I hope he found it.
Not to mention your kids....no matter how bad things get....I know the one thing that would always keep me going is to see my kids grow up.
I couldn't agree more...and I find it hard to believe that Junior would put his family through this kind of pain.
For those who don't know much about Junior, he certainly did a lot of good over the years. From the Wikipedia page:
Junior Seau Foundation
In 1992, Seau created the Junior Seau Foundation with the mission to educate and empower young people through the support of child abuse prevention, drug and alcohol awareness, recreational opportunities, anti-juvenile delinquency efforts and complimentary educational programs.
The 20th Anniversary Junior Seau Celebrity Golf Classic was held March 1012, 2012 at the world famous La Costa Resort and Spa. The Foundation gives out an annual award to the individual who exemplifies the mission statement of the Junior Seau Foundation.

RIP Junior!
It is not unusual for people who are depressed to be active in causes, such as that, it’s one of the ways they try to fight it....but ultimately it’s not enough.
That's because the rules of baseball only allow two sides. I think if the rules changed and home plate were a hendecagon, Tila would be batting from all eleven sides.
Anyone ever see her with a boa or a donkey?
