A rather jarring video.
Warning, not graphic, but disturbing.
what they make sidewalks out of paper in China?
They showed this on Fox this week and they made it sound like its bad to text and walk. But clearly the issue is the repairwork isn’t clearly marked. They also made it sound like it was in NY (I think).
Surprising to see people come to her aid so quickly. Many times they would just walk on by. Sorta like driving past a car wrecked in the ditch. The value for human life in China is very very low.
Those commies are really tough on texting
Ah So.
Step on a crack...
Exactly.
I couldn’t see a hole until she made it and she couldn’t either, regardless of what she was doing. Cell phone had nothing to do with it.
Ancient Chinese Sakrete. . . .
Is this is an example of that famous Chinese infrastructure that Obama was so envious of, and wanted us to emulate?
Give the bystanders credit for unhesitatingly assisting but I wouldn’t have rushed right up to the edge of the hole like they did anymore than I would rush right up to the edge of ice someone had just fallen through..
Funniest thing I have read today! Sending you a bill for a new keyboard and a Starbuck's coffee...
That's genius!
I hate that you thought of this and I didn’t.
This has completely ruined my day.
No, actually, my life.
YOU HAVE DESTROYED MY LIFE!
Don’t hit me, Laz!
doubtless construction standards in China are lax, but from a news article I read on this yesterday it was a sinkhole that had opened up below the pavement which was to blame. In fact the taxi driver who went down to stay with the girl recounted that the earth was still moving around while they were down there, thus making it difficult to climb back out.
disappeared forever.
The taxi driver was simply the one willing to jump in and attempt to rescue her before anyone else had. Others called for help. She was scared (like, really?) and had to be coaxed out but all in all she came out in pretty fine shape.
And like someone already said, it was a hole caused by water washing away the road's foundation. Along with rescuing her, now they know about a hole that needs to be fixed.
Concrete walls surrounding a school had rebar sticking out of them into the sidewalk area at eye level. On the same sidewalk there were unmarked gaps in the sidewalk at least 18 inches deep.
With challenges like this we found we had to take very small steps and check our surroundings thoroughly before proceeding. Evidently the locals have better use for their money, what little they have, than to spend it on instituting building codes and enforcement.
It's a "tourist beware" environment.
