. . .the bursting of the housing market bubble in 2006 and the recession that followed from late 2007 to mid-2009 took a far greater toll on the wealth of minorities than whites.

Should be interpreted as:

The ostensibly noble intentions of government to encourage home ownership among minorities by pressuring banks and mortgage companies to make home loans that would not pay back ended up hurting minorities instead of helping them.

Imagine that. . . our know-it-all federal government screwed it up again. Oh well, what is a few more minorities on government assistance? . . . Votes!!!!!

Good point. Still the figure of over $100,000 even for whites I have a hard time believing. Seems to me most Americans live paycheck to paycheck.
