I can’t understand why cops instinctively just shoot the dogs.
Twenty-five years ago, I was attached by a large doberman pinscher, the dog had me on the ground and was attempting to kill me. Two deputy sherrifs witnessed the attack and rather than shoot the dog, one opened the trunk of their patrol car and took out a shovel. They then beat the dog with the back of the shovel until it ran away.
The dog survived and so did I. The owner got cited for not having the dog on a lease.
not lease. it should be leash.
As an artist, I was given permission by a landowner to paint on his property. While there, I was attacked by the owner’s Great Dane. I fended him off with my camp chair while the owner watched. Finally he called him off. (the owner didn’t recognize me) It would never have occurred to me to shoot the dog even if I had been carrying.
It seems like the philosophy for policemen is: If a dog barks and/or moves toward me, I shoot it. What if meter readers shared this philosophy?
