Palin: Heres the deal. There is that inherent link between energy and prosperity and energy and security. Oil prices affect everything in our lives, including even where we send our sons and daughters in war. Bottom line is we need to drill more here where God seems to have dumped a storehouse of safe energy supply right underfoot. Developing resources here grows our economy. It decreases trade imbalance. It creates hundreds of thousands of good paying jobs and it secures our union by eliminating dependence on dangerous foreign regimes, regimes that use energy as a weapon. Access to affordable energy and ethical trade, thats the real all-of-the-above approach and it is key to America security.

I have never said using "American", I said North American. Do you know where we get most of our coal, oil and gas now?
As to economics, you apparently are unaware of supply and demand, how the futures markets work and the cost of bring a product to market. Please, do some research.
The Laws of supply and demand and market economics have not been repealed. Quick clue: Why do the dems want to release some of the strategic oil reserve when prices are politically harmful? To lower the price!
Now, please review the history, before and after, of OPEC's control over supply and price of energy. Please research who controls the supply of oil to Europe and reflect on the near future and the price of energy.
Fungible, but not. How much does oil cost in the countries that produce it? Do you think shipping are a cost? Do you think tariffs and taxes are a cost? Do you think regulations are a cost? How much does government intervention and interference raise the price?
At certain points, oil may be a somewhat fungible commodity, but we have chosen to be at the mercy of those who supply it by removing ourselves from the supply line and by over over regulating and over taxing those few who remain.
Get the Fed out and let the market decide, then it will be the fungible product you believe it to be as you seem to define fungible.
American alternative energy? North American energy! Coal, Oil, Gas. Let's use it instead of the imports and watch our economy grow and the world will grow and prosper along with us.
None of that changes the fact that it would be stupid to have such a law, and such a law would not change the main problem. You and I want the same result, but I stand by the fact that your methodology for getting there is flawed tremendously.
...what you don’t know.....won’t affect me....
Wacky elipses with a hint of mystery? It’s an improvement.
Keep it up. You probably should consider avoiding the old “a little birdie told me” thing, though. It has an unfortunate but amusing history here.
But...the more I think about it, the more I want to argue for such a law. Consider what she is saying here:
Oil prices affect everything in our lives, including even where we send our sons and daughters in war.
She's absolutely right, but she vastly understates the reality.
Energy truly is the life's blood of a nation and it's beyond foolish, my granddad would have said "Treasonous!", to make us dependent upon anyone else or keep us from what we have.
The only things more important to our nation's security and defense than our energy resources are our willingness and our ability to defend them.
From that point of view, and given the number of wars and foreign entanglements we've gotten into and the various hornet nests various administrations have stirred up around the world over energy, and will again and again, a law sounds like not only a good idea, but self preservation, all at the same time.
Plus, think of the impact removing US demand from the World energy market would do to the price!
Then, consider the additional impact of our reliably adding to the world supply.
Think that would lower the price of petrol in Europe and beyond? Do you think we would add to more to world stability that way than we do now as world cop?
I do.
I am for whatever legal ways that lets us get to true energy independence. I am for whatever reforms we can do to remove the political impediments stopping us from that much better reality!
I think it's going to take a law to make us do the smart/right things, but if we can get it done your way, so much the better.
We call folks who say things like that "liberals." Again, you have a good goal, but an awful and ineffective way to get there. And a damned dangerous way as well.
Just so we're clear on present dangers, our current policy of making our resources off limits is damned dangerous and it's the liberals/progressives of both parties who have given it to us and the wars and such that come with it.
You are making one of the most irritating and childish mistakes anyone can make in a debate - you are linking a dismissal of your ridiculous idea with a support of the status quo.
Once again, that’s what liberals do. Why do you insist on trying this? This is like the third or fourth time you have gone to that rancid well. Quit.
Your idea is foolish and unworkable and would not solve the problem. Period. Done deal.
Edmund’s remarks were appropriate and well stated, just off the mark as to my feelings. I made that clear in my followup post. There is nothing in his post to me to be critical of.
Your posts are a hoot. I gave my reasons and you cry about it and call me names like a school girl?
Winning debate strategy...you have thoroughly convinced me about foolish and unworkable. Period. Done deal.
Cheers and Happy Tax Day!
My frustration was we had huge common ground from the get go - which got lost in the false choice retorts...
FTR - I paid my taxes Friday to get it over with, and it was NOT happy.)
Oh, debate strategy on a message board? Mine is to forget trying to convince a particular debate antagonist. The goal is win the day in the mind of others who drop by and take a look.
