William F. Buckley had a solution to this koan: vote for the most conservative candidate who has a real chance of winning.

Voting for the lesser of two evils means you're still voting for evil. The question becomes - do we embolden conservatives in Congress by being the opposition party, or do we empower RINOs into shoving even more liberal dung down our throats?

I'm voting for Newt. Piss on these lesser of two evils, I'm choosing a good man.

Buckley was, on occasion, in extreme error.

The answer ~ the CORRECT ANSWER ~ is for the less Conservative candidates to drop out of the race.

Their failure to do so should be held against them in future political endeavors.

We should also punish those who supported less Conservative candidates ~ brutally so ~

That's missing the koan completely. It's like telling someone you're the most humble person in the room. A conservative does not sacrifice their principles. Compromising with evil because it increases your chances of winning automatically disqualifies your choice as conservative.

In this case, it’s looking like the final ballot will feature a socialist vs. a communist, with no conservative having any chance whatsoever of winning.

Hence the koan: there is no solution. You walk into the voting booth, make the choice you see fit, walk out, and move on with whatever happens from there.
