Happy Friday the 13th, and good morning fellow gardeners and FRiends! I hope that you are enjoying weather as beautiful as what we are experiencing here in NE Louisiana. Nights and mornings are cool and breezy, and the days very warm.
I've planted 1.6 acres of bi-color sweet corn. We checked the seed the next day and it had already sprouted, and was pegged the following day. Perfect conditions!
Looking forward to hearing what's going on in your neck o' the woods.
The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you.
This thread is non-political, although you will find that most here are conservative folks. No matter what, you wont be flamed and the only dumb question is the one that isnt asked.
It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread ... there is no telling where it will go and that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us!
I hope that you get all of the rain that you need!!
Oh, yum! I really need to get some mustard and turnip greens planted. Thanks for reminding me. :)
Good luck! Be sure and introduce those tomatoes and peppers to some filtered or indirect sun first. They might very well scorch if you go full sun at first. Silverqueen corn is great.
Oh my, YES! I got soaked walking the dog this morning.
Glad you got the camera up! If you get too many rodents, adjust the sensor switch to 'low' and that may help.
Mark and I are leaving to do a bee hive cutout this morning. Same apartments that we used the man lift, but we will be getting these from inside the apartment. They are going in the wood and down behind the brick veneer.
Whoa! I thought this thread was about this year’s reappearance of the mooch-elle’s garden at the white hut that she tends every day.

Yes, I do grind my own grains. A couple of years ago I scored a Schnitzer Grano mill with stone wheel. Adjusts from cracking corn to the finest flour.
I have one raised bed that I put in for lettuces and other salad fixins. It is around 8'x16', so I could devote 1/3 of it to asparagus. Is that too much??
Thanks so much for the recipe! Those sound awesome! Think I will use a generous dose of Tony’s seasoning in the place of the plain cayenne.
What variety of figs do you have?
Not really, I guess, but it could be. It is just something I made up one evening when I was contemplating the pile of veggies I had on the countertop.
Start with 2 tbs of olive oil, 2 tbs of butter, onions, peppers and garlic. Then just throw in tomatoes (with juice) and whatever else you have on hand. Spam cut into cubes is surprisingly good too. Use Tony's cajun seasoning liberally!
Thank you! I do too! :^)
Those squashes are beautiful! That monster white one would be a beautiful bowl for a fruit salad or melon balls. It might be big enough to use as a soup tureen.
Probably another life form, but hey, so is penicilan, let it grow.
Yummy.
Thank you. We’ll have some of that for dinner.
Hmmm, I have that book. I like the recipes.
I have a mini peach tree. It is full of tiny peaches and everyone of the peaches have a scab on the skin. What can I do to clear this up, or what? I also have a bunch of “wild” peach sprouts coming up and plan to replant a couple in the pasture. One year there were so many peaches we were looking forward to harvesting them. Well, we had a very hard wind come through and blew every ripe peach off the tree. We scooped up what we could, gave everyone one we knew some, but a lot of the peaches on the ground was put in the dumpster, they were ruined. This time those little trees are going to be pruned along the fence and kept SHORT.
That should be fine. 10 roots is more than enough. Being a perrenial it will eventually split.
