Jim Fixx's autopsy showed a congenital heart problem. He also had heart problems that apparently dated to his days of heavy smoking and heavy weight before he took up running. His autopsy 'revealed that atherosclerosis had blocked one coronary artery 95%, a second 85%, and a third 70%.'

Fixx was a cardiac time bomb, whether he ran or not.

"Fixx was a cardiac time bomb, whether he ran or not."

So if Dick Quinn was learning about capsaicin and its circulatory health benefits in the eighties, and it presumably extended his life by almost twenty years, why are these people still conducting tests on animals?

Quinn's book, "Left For Dead", by the way, is entertaining as well as informative.

The conclusion to be drawn from this information is that exercise alone is not an answer to good health and longevity. Nor are proper nutrition and dietary supplements.

Both together are best, and having healthy parents and no congenital defects are good investments too.

The thing about engaging in vigorous exercise is that, even though you feel like death warmed over immediately post, you sleep like a log and feel very good the rest of the time. Don’t forget about the increase in stamina. Believe me, I wouldn’t be an insomniac (as in now) if I could still do that stuff.

It seems I recall that, but again, it was his death that changed the way medicos looked at exercise. I’m a definite carnivore, including dairy products, but fortunately, I’ve been blessed with a system that takes care of any cholesterol.

And it is not unusual for me to walk a mile or more in 20 minutes, allowing time for traffic and a couple of lights.
Not bad, for an old broad!
