“Announce successful pill that turns water into motor fuel.”

I actually saw a fictional story on exactly that on TV about 45 years ago. I have NO idea what the show was...Amazing Stories or something. Wasn’t Twilight Zone, it was supposed to be based on a true story. All their episodes were, I think. (Sorry to be so vague. It wasn’t a show I watch regularly.)

All I really remember is that a guy — maybe 1920s or ‘30s era — runs out of gas. He asks a man if he can use his water hose, fills his gas tank with water, throws in a little pill or three, and drives off. The good Samaritan stands there scratching his head as the other fellow drives away.

I think the only reason I remember it at all is because it was supposedly based on a true story.

I've seen it done too. The secret is a small hidden gas tank that the driver switches to and cuts the water tank and pill out of the system.

Jethro did that on the Beverly Hillbilly’s but he had the selector labeled backwards so when he went to gas from water, it stalled. It was pretty funny.
