Okay, not a "greatest of all time" April Fools joke, but it's pretty amusing to me: most years, I hack into all the HP printers in our office at work, and change the LCD displays to have funny messages on them. Examples:
"Insert coin(s)"
"Out of dilithium"
"Not feelin it today"
"Breakdown imminent"
"Swipe card to begin"
