but I remember driving through a patch of Georgia where some big carpet manufacturers were located. It stunk for MILES. Not sure if it was the companies or what.

More likely a paper mill. Were you on 75 between Atlanta and Chattanooga?

There used to be one near Alexandria, LA, as well, but I haven't smelled it my last few times through there. Don't know if it's closed, or if I'm just not hitting the wrong days.

I love the smell of papermills and lowcountry swamp land at low tide. Reminds me of summer vacations in my childhood. My family think I am nuts but those smells have happy memories associated with them for me.

Yes, it was I-75 in GA. Not sure why paper mills stink. Trees don’t smell bad.
