In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
antipode \AN-ti-pohd\, noun
A direct or exact opposite.
Example sentences:
It seemed that this enthusiast was just as cautious, just as much alive to judgments in other minds as if he had been that antipode of all enthusiasm called "a man of the world."
-- George Eliot, Daniel Deronda
I look for the furthest spot on earth away from Lancaster Lancaster's antipode the middle of the Indian Ocean.
-- Douglas Coupland, Shampoo Planet
Here we are, thrust to the opposite and absurd antipode of what we think is good. And tomorrow we'll be out of bed at three o'clock in the pitch-black morning.
-- Tim O'Brien, If I Die in a Combat Zone, Box Me Up and Ship Me Home
Etymology:
Antipode is actually a clipping, or back-formation, of the word Greek word antipodes. It lost its s in the mid-1500s. The original word literally meant "opposite feet," as in "the place on the exact opposite point on the globe.".
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)

A for you.
I am reading Hollywood Hypocrites. What a hoot it is. I find myself LOL or just grinning at his colorful narrative.
looks like Rush is now on Twitter....hmm.
Cause with 57 little Obama faces, you wouldn’t be able to make it out from a distance.
he’s burning through money in his campaign the same way he does as president.
SU down, prepare for the worst and start praying.
Mostly cloudy, humid and 73-nice hiking weather, though...
The Obama’s wild extravagances
Have sown discontented seeds-
And in this bone-lean economy
It’s the antipode of what he needs
While most of us wear older clothes
And pad our menu with soup and stews
They party and eat bison Wellington
And Michelle wears $1000.00 shoes
And as we watch we can hardly wait
To halt their game of spend-and-rob
To watch them pack-send them back
To play games with the Chicago mob
Not only burning through it-the recklessness of his spending reminds me of those people in Vegas who believe if they can just get the money to place one more bet, they are sure to win big. That is what he does every time someone makes a big donation to him-he uses it on some idiotic campaign gimmick. I’m guessing that he won’t return Mahre’s (sp?) million is because he’s already blown it.
Eked it out, gonnabe an uuuuugly run.
Laura Ingraham just tweeted that she was at the game. WOO WOO
He spent like 146% of the money he took in in January. I like it. He’s begging people for $3!
A+ for you, F- for the unAmerican who hung that monstrosity.
It’s hard to keep track of the Podes. A for you.
A+ for you. We had the same weather earlier but I made it storm by spraying weedkiller out back. It’s yellow and red on the weather channel here. I don’t want to go back out but I’ll have to in an hour.
Thank you!
This weekend, I’ll have to get out the weedeater and do the yard before it starts to rain again.
Good-let him spend his liberal worshippers’ money until they get tired and cut him off like the gambling addict he acts like...
She was in Syracuse watching with rabid SU fans, but the game was played at consol energy center in Pgh.
