I found the video rather disgusting, the mother parading the daughter out in front of the news cameras in order to humiliate her. The mother looked like a real piece of trash herself with that t-shirt that read “Sexy the Hard Way” or something like that. She (the mother) looked like a real slob.

Being seen with someone who wears what her mom’s t-shirt says would be punishment enough!

I got that feeling while watching the video. The mom is trying in her own misguided way to teach the girl not to steal. At the same time she looks like trailer trash in the clothing she was wearing. Personally I think a better way to teach the child not to steal is to take her back to the store and make her apologize to the manager and pay for what she stole.

Good for Mom! It sounds like she knows her daughter well and picked an appropriate punishment.

IT says “Hide your money, hide your clothes, hide everything cuz I’m a thief”
Moms shirt says “Sexy to the hard core” when it should read “wide load”

The girl is only 13. Not to minimize her shoplifting but making her wear that degrading shirt and then pushing her out of the house to face a news crew borders on child abuse. I get the impression the mother was looking for her "15 minutes" of fame and was willing to exploit her own daughter to get it. Mark my words, this girl is going to grow up hating her mother for what she did. The parent/child relationship has been damaged beyond repair.
If it were my child, I'd do as you suggested. Take the child back to the store to apologize and pay for what was taken. No cameras, no publicity. Then that would be the end of it.

Judging from Mom’s shirt, she doesn’t have a good influence at home

Sam in the old days that is what parents did. They did not do this! Am I so old that taking a kid back to the store to apologize has gone by the wayside? I never figured the Creepy girl mom was looking for fame out of this. Now that you bring it up I believe she is just trying to make herself “look good”. Well it does not make her look good, she looks like trash. I also don’t think this will teach the kid a good lesson.
