Hunter, the debut novel from investigative journalist and Big Government contributor Robert Bidinotto, is the latest indie/self-published book to enjoy widespread, commercial success. Its been a best seller on Amazon for a while now and received great reviews from readers. I picked up a copy at the recommendation of a friend. Hunter did not disappointed.
In the interest of full disclosure, Ima sucker for revenge stories, ranging from The Count of Monte Cristo to Payback to Taken to High Plains Drifter. Revenge themes make great thrillers and Hunter is no exception. Without giving away too much, Hunter involves an unknown vigilante who is killing criminals coddled by and pre-maturely released from prison by a corrupt judicial system.
What makes Hunter particularly unique, and which may explain part of its success, is its also message book that appeals to the right. It savages the pro-criminal justice system, mostly in a subtle way, but also expressly in parts where appropriate. Bidinottos commentary on the corrupt and deadly arrangement of the pro-criminal industry is well done and should be appealing to members of FR.
Hunter demonstrates better than any other indie novel Ive read so far that the playing field is leveling between established and indie novelists. The book is well paced, researched and written. Aside from some occasional bouts of a quirky writing style by Bidinotto (using short, incomplete sentences in action sequences), Hunter is indistinguishable from a mass market novel put out by the big publishing houses.
I tried thinking of a known author or book to compare Bidinotto and Hunter to, but came up empty. The novel is unique - part police procedural and part espionage thriller tied together with a love story.
Im confident that the FR community would enjoy the novel because it is both a compelling action thriller and contains a conservative friendly message.
Available on Amazon here.
Very nice post, thanks.
Should be featured in the FR Style Book .. if we had one !
I just went and bought the book for my Kindle based on your recommendation. But, I’m several pages into it now and have not seen any mention of a tough-guy type hero (which is what I like).
PLEASE tell me this entire book is not going to be about some woman named Annie, who is the only agent mentioned in the first three chapters!
Read the reviews. He just introduced the lady first, it seems.
Added to my wish list, as I still prefer dead trees.
Thanks. On chapter six, and Dylan Hunter just manifested himself. Seems like a pretty good character.
By the way, break down and get a Kindle. They’re very convenient to carry around, store an incredible number of books, and are much easier to read than a dead tree!
Can I read it in the hot tub? The pool, in the summer?
Just an old geezer. I like real books.
I had the same concerns. Stick with it - you’ll like it.
Thanks. You’re right — I stuck with it and did like it (though I could have lived without the second date rolling in the hay passages; not at all germane to the story).
Are there Germanes in the story
