It’s one thing to payback a sitting Senator who has previously endorsed you. I wouldn’t have done it, but Palin endorsed McCain under similar circumstances. Everyone understands the influence of personal loyalty, but to pick an obscure radical liberal that had never done anything for anybody, and endorse her over a conservative candidate, that is impossible to explain. Of course, who knows what Nancy whispered in Newt’s ear on that couch, that got him to buy into Al Gore’s agenda. Maybe, she would only give him more “couch time” if he endorsed DeDe.
There's personal loyalty, and there's network loyalty. Any politician can get away without honoring the first, but none can forever dishonor the later.
Newt has an intellectual infrastructure...a mind share.
As much as he panders to the Social Conservatives, he is not one of them.
Still, if he does not win the nomination, I will write him in.
If Newt’s a liberal, then he must be the most incompetent liberal to ever enter into politics. As Speaker in the ‘90s, all he had to do was rubber-stamp everything Clinton wanted to pass if he wanted to promote liberalism. Is your argument based on assuming that Newt ACCIDENTALLY governed as a consistent conservative during the time that he was the 3rd most powerful politician in the country for 4 years? This whole “Newt is a liberal” meme is the most implausible, ridiculous, stupid, tired, failed argument. It’s been thoroughly debunked since the GOP-E like Ann Coulter and George Will started pushing it (they did the same to all of Romney’s primary opponents in 2008...it’s always pure manufactured BS). Talking as if you still believe it now just makes you look like a pinhead.
