Pink Floyd star Roger Waters has reportedly stated that Britain should return the Falkland Islands, saying "Las Malvinas belong to Argentina".
In an interview with Chilean television, Waters, who is on tour in South America, allegedly said he was "as ashamed as I possibly could be of our colonial past ... When we were out raping and plundering and stealing".
The reported comments came as Argentina's industry minister called for all British imports to be banned as tensions escalate between the two countries ahead of the 30th anniversary of the Falklands conflict.
A journalist for the Chilean TVN state channel claimed Waters had made the comments during an exclusive interview on Tuesday. Amaro Gómez-Pablos tweeted: "Roger Waters was categorical: Las Malvinas belong to Argentina."
In a later press conference in Chile, Waters was more cautious, stating: "Clearly there needs to be a solution to the problem of the varying claims [to the Falklands]the claims are so convoluted and so old, going back as they do to the 17th century. It's not a simple situation. My view is that certainly it saved Margaret Thatcher's political career at the time at the cost of a great many Argentine and British lives, which disgusted me then and still does now. I was never a huge fan of Margaret Thatcher."
Pink Floyd's twelfth album, The Final Cut, was heavily influenced by the Falklands conflict, with several critical references to Baroness Thatcher.

What’s a “Pink Floyd” .... some new kind of British QFP?
Residents of the Falkland Islands seem to disagree.
I like all Pink Floyds music. I am a fanatic, but Roger is a lunatic liberal anti-semite idiot. And I love the wall but their earlier stuff like Meddle and Atom Heart mother were some of the most talented works by the band. And agree Gilmour and Wright were amazing. Roger is a wonderful showman but needs to SHET UP!
Addled.
No flames from me. Hes still not over it.
Gilmore was probly tryin so hard to play his heart out he didnt notice what a douche Waters probly had always been.
I liked the Final Cut. Two Suns in the Sunset is cool.
No, no, no. The question is “Which ones Pink?”
And Roger’s, or any other artist’s opinion is relevant because...?
An excellent song. My faves Are Gunner’s Dream and Paranoid Eyes. Of the two PA gets top shot. Then again I’m a sucker for concept albums. Nothing like a good story set to good music.
I am however surprised at how many people who hear 2 suns have no clue what he’s referring to. I mean it IS kinda obvious ;)
They have made it very clear that they want to be part of the UK, and do not want to leave and/or become citizens of other countries. The UK supports the Falklands very considerably economically with little (up to now) return benefit, because it is their responsibility to their fellow citizens.
Funny that song is on my ipod right now.. Far Out!

I had some Floyd on vinyl when I was in my 20s, but my interest in them faded out like a bad fart.
The Falklands were never part of Argentina to begin with. The Falklanders want to keep their UK passports and want nothing to do with Argentina. This was true before oil was discovered and is even more so now. If they stay with the UK and commercial oil production begins, the Falklands will be one of the richest places on earth, per capita. If they went with Argentina, the islanders would see nothing and they would be faced with a horde of Argentinian settlers whose purpose would be to demographically replace the Falklanders. Argentina used to be a decent place with a high standard of living. Unfortunately, it’s gone steadily down hill with a series of statist governments. Under the current administration, the president spends like crazy to assure her continued re-election and criminalizes the reporting of the actual inflation rate.
The reemergence of the Falklands ‘issue’ is about oil money. The Falklanders would never agree to be a part of Argentina and the UK has said it would not give up the islanders without their consent.
And Waters is a proponent and an apologist for Argentinian colonialism. Argentina wants the oil and the land, and to hell with the inhabitants. And Waters is 100% behind them. Who's the colonialist now, Roger?
It is wholly inappropriate of you to point that out or even publicly discuss this. Roger W is a loyal leftist and as such little things like critically thinking through a given issue is clearly not on the agenda...nor should it be!
Don’t you realize the man FEELS?!?!?!? HE FEELS!!!!
Evil right wingers, I swear. Why, you’re probably one of them damn Reagan/Thacher fans too....
You’re onto me. I’m (sob!) so ashamed... :-(
Why would Roger support a country that harbored a bunch of Nazi War Criminals? Why not just say that the Falklands should be independent, instead of under any country, at the very least?
It’s ok. In your shame, you have demonstrated you FEEL! as well and so can be forgiven ;)
I have to admit that I’m enjoying this, watching idiot actors and rock stars make fools of themselves talking about “colonialism” in the Falklands and that Britain should “give them back,” statements that identify HOW ****ING DUMBASS STUPID THESE PEOPLE ARE.
It’s like watching all of your enemies line up to stick their heads into airplane propellors because they have been talked into believing it will help the world. And, indeed, they are correct.
It was amazing seeing the video of Gilmour’s “On an Island” Tour, and seeing him and Wright doing Echoes in its’ entirety one final time.
The other members even admitted that it was Wright that kept PF together in the immediate aftermath of Sid’s departure. His “Paintbox” is still one of my all-time favorite PF songs.
