Sure, in our modern-day world, detached from nature, you might call it a tie, after all, it’s just a matter of preference. If you look at human history as well, though, dogs are the clear winners. We might not have gotten to where we are today without them. You can’t even begin to make the same argument about cats. They might catch a mouse now and then, but a cat isn’t going to guard your livestock, help you hunt for your food, or drive off large predators intent on killing you and your family.
One would need to do a survey in china.
I hate cats! People say they taste like chicken.
But they don’t.
Can a cat retrieve a duck out of a cold river?
I love these Cat vs. Dog threads. They have the funniest comments, pictures, links etc. For myself I like ‘em both + birds, lizards, turtles, goats, cows and stuff. Not so hot on horses, to much work and danger.
Siamese - best of both worlds. Loyalty and train-ability of a dog, grace and sophistication of a cat.
Also, the Siamese possess other worldy mental “control” capabilities...
Dogs need to be laundered (-2)
Cats clean themselves (+2)
Turns out Cat Ladies really are crazy.
And they caught it from their cats.
Google Toxiplasmosis, insanity.
We have both and both have their charms. I love that the dog protects the home and that (until his injury) he was such a game companion on hikes - even went rock climbing with me. I’d be a very sad lady without my cats though who are my constant companions in the house. The rowdy way of the dog took some adjusting. He learned not to jump and lick. The first kitten I had, my vet told me that they could be trained just like dogs. I took him at his word, so my cats are trained to do many dog-like things: come to their name, sit, beg for treats, speak, etc. They understand what parts of the house are off limits and respect those limits - at least when people are in the house.
Dogs hands down.
I don’t like cats because:
1) They have sharp, needle teeth and needle claws.
2) They don’t have bones.
3) Which makes me afraid I’ll break them.
4) Tongue like sandpaper.
5) They’re smarter than me.
6) They’re plotting against me.
I like dogs because:
1) They’re dumb.
2) Lovable.
3) Affectionate.
4) Happy.
5) They’re not plotting against me.
Comparing cats and dogs like like comparing apples and oranges or men and women. They all have their appropriate places.
I’ve had dogs and cats since I was 16 years old. For a a few years we only had cats. a few years ago our last and final cat passed away. Only dogs now. The deal was, add a dog, but no more cats or litter boxes.
I love animals, dogs included, but I’ve always had a special heart for cats.
It’s my experience that men tend to view cats as sort of a sissy animal, more suited to women, but IMO that’s wrong. A cat is the neatest animal on earth, to me. He’s a miniature tiger in every way——tough, fearless little bundles of solid muscle. There’s nothing frou-frou about them, unless you’re talking the fluffy, overbred, lay-around longhaired types, and that’s not my kind of cat. That’s the man-invented kind, and not the true feline.
All I can say is Texas Cowboy would be having the time of his life on this thread.
