Sounds like a good way to end up in the hospital with shattered bones. Those swords do a tremendous amount of damage even if they have no edge.

SCA sword fighting is done with simulated swords, made of padded rattan. The helmets, armor and shields are real (shield edges are padded to prevent injury)

There’s the answer. If they were using real unsharpened steel swords there would be dead people and permanently maimed people at every gathering, I would say.
