Warner Bros has closed deals with Akiva Goldsman and Overbrook Entertainment to do another installment of I Am Legend, the 2007 hit film. The intention is for Will Smith to reprise his role as scientist Robert Neville, who was the last man on Earth doing battle with a mutated mob in New York City after an apocalyptic man-made virus wiped out the population. A deal was made with Arash Amel to write the script. The film is not being called a prequel, which had been rumored for the past few years. But clearly Warner Bros sees more room to roam on a film that grossed $584 million worldwide. The original film is based on the novel by Richard Matheson.

I hated the ending of “I am Legend”. If it is a prequil, I won’t watch it, but if they have it so that he somehow survived the explosion, then I am game.

I can't believe we saw the same movie. You didn't appreciate the lesson of "well-meaning" scientists accidently wiping out humanity by mandating everyone take the cancer cure? Or the spiritual transformation of Smith's character? Or the triumph of a good man over the forces of evil? Or all the references to God and salvation? Or the final shot of the American flag and small country church in the "safe haven"?
All you can say is, "Zombies wouldn't do that"? Weird.
I LOVED this movie.

Yeah I was a little put off at the super-speed zombie calorie monsters who only ate uninfected people yet lived for years.

Au contraire, his work in “Six degrees of Separation” is magnificent, with no effects.

Who cares what happened to her? Any woman who couldn’t appreciate the story of a military hero who worships the memory of his wife and saves the human race, isn’t worth a box of chocolates and a six-pack.

I am Legend was really good when it was all about Will Smith’s character, his isolation, the friendship with him and his dog, the mutants. Then this French woman shows up with her kid and it all goes to hell.

It’s a remake of Omega Man with some updates. It’s the same story, basically, from end to end.

In fact, the two movies have more in common than Tom Clancy’s book “Sum of all Fears” has with the movie of the same name that was based on the book.

... with Will Smith. How can that be? He's dead. How would you write that into a new movie?

That's the fact, Jack! I mean Debs.

Well, now that more than a few posts have spoiled the ending, it’s safe to say that there is a much better alternate ending where Neville does survive.
I thought the movie was a great stand-alone flick next to the other adaptations and book.
Sure, the bad guys are CGI and wicked fast, but the story is less about the creature and more about Neville’s fight to stay sane against what seems to him to be a hopeless fight. There is also a deeply spiritual theme in finding God when there seems to be no evidence of his working hand.
I enjoyed the flick then and still watch both versions to this day. There will always be haters....that’s life.

We're also going to try to replace some of our older servers and failing equipment this year so we're going to add a little extra to our FReepathon goals. John is estimating ten to fifteen thousand to do this and I'd like to get it all in place and working before the election cycle is fully heated up, so we'll try to bring in a little more now if we can and the rest next quarter.

Yes, they're both based on the book "I Am Legend" by Richard Matherson. Will Smith's film is actually the third adaptation of the novel, the first was a black & white film called "The Last Man on Earth", starring Vincent Price as Nevile. The Will Smith film borrows heavily from the Heston film, except the mutants is the Heston film are still intelligent people you can converse with, instead of mindless screeching CGI monsters. The Heston film was much better than the remake, IMO. But even by using the word "remake", I'm sure someone on here will object and claim it's not a remake. I think there are actually 4 versions. The SyFy channel, back when it was Sci-Fi did a two evening mini-series on it staring Marc Dacascos called "I Am Omega".
Oooops, I doubled checked, looks like it was a straight to video thing.

Oh, please. There was an explosion. Did we see pieces of him anywhere?
Will Smith is an A-lister and therefore...indestructible. Just shoot an additional scene showing him slipping out of the room behind the woman and her son, but knocked unconscious or show him being blown free or being miraculously shielded from the explosion by his metal desk. Harrison Ford was shielded from an atom bomb inside a refrigerator.
Piece a cake.

Probably my favorite movie of that year.
It was mine too. Generally I don't watch a move more than once but since I have a copy of this one, I've watched it several times.........I sure wish the dog would have lived tho

Wow. I knew you would know how. Screen writers are simply amazing ....

But, nevermind all that, this is a “prequel” so it will take place before the “I Am Legend” story.
