“Authenticated information that the Nazis were systematically exterminating European Jewry was made public in the United States in November 1942. President Roosevelt did nothing about the mass murder for fourteen months, then moved only because he was confronted with political pressures he could not avoid and because his administration stood on the brink of a nasty scandal over its rescue policies. . . . Franklin Roosevelt’s indifference to so momentous a historical event as the systematic annihilation of European Jewry emerges as the worst failure of his presidency.”

P.S. It wasn't "we" but the Russians who liberated Auschwitz and Treblinka.

The US did not abandon the Jews. They were not our special responsibility any more than the Armenians, the Biafrans, the Tutsis or any other victims of genocide this past century. All unfortunate episodes in human history, but the US government’s duty is to provide for the safety of American citizens, not the rescue of all the victims of the world's evils.

Why would anyone want to bicker over which camps were liberated by whom? Americans did their share, by far:

"American forces liberated more than 20,000 prisoners at Buchenwald. They also liberated Dora-Mittelbau, Flossenbürg, Dachau, and Mauthausen. "

I meant ‘’we’’ in the broader sense. An ignorant policy by the Roosevelt Administration and America is responsible for the Holocaust? Please, that’s insulting in the main. In 1942 America had just entered the war. Do you propose we should have marched straight on to Berlin at that time? We fought a war damnit and ended the concentration camps. History is 20/20 in hindsight, isn’t it?
