‘American Idol’ Top 4 Predictions: Can Hollie Be Saved?
Thursday, May 10, 2012

It’s the end of the road for Hollie Cavangh on American Idol. That’s the general consensus going into tonight’s results show, and I’m not sure anything can stop that inevitable conclusion.

The sweet young girl got the most negative feedback this week and she’s been in the bottom five of the past six weeks (I guess Elise Testone’s vacation home was a timeshare).

Even the judges seem to know Hollie is doomed. When asked about the Top 4, Jennifer Lopez meekly said that these are the people who deserve it, talking about Joshua Ledet, Jessica Sanchez, Phillip Phillips and “even Hollie.” It’s easy to read the subtext of that final comment. Jenny from the Block was clearly saying “I want people to think I’m nice, so I’m gonna pretend Hollie deserves to be here even though we all know it should be Skylar or Elise or Colton or, really, anyone else.”

Hollie’s departure from American Idol seems even more obvious given everyone else’s performances. Phillip Phillips has never been in the bottom and his “Volcano” was the kind of moving, touching moment he needed to secure all those young female votes. P2 should already be practicing his surprise face for when Ryan Seacrest announces him as the winner.

Joshua Ledet earned another standing ovation, although it’s hard to complain about it since he was seemingly possessed by greatness itself during “It’s a Man’s Man’s Man’s World.” I’ve grown tired of the judges’ obvious favoritism for him, but even I have to admit that was one of the best performances I’ve ever seen on this show.

And Jessica Sanchez got to end the night with that big song from Dreamgirls. Yeah, she sang it well, but that song is such an obvious choice and belongs in the pantheon of “Songs You Can Sing to Guarantee Your Safety” alongside Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah,” John Lennon’s “Imagine” and “Falling Slowly” from Once.

So everyone had a “MOMENT” except for Hollie. She just kind of sat there, dangling in the wind like a girl on a swing. If anyone other than Hollie Cavanagh gets eliminated, it will be a travesty, a sham and a miracle.

I think it’s a travesty and a shame for Hollie to go home. Actually I won’t watch the last shows if she does.

I blame the judges and their bamboozling Hollie for this.
