She gets a surprise greeting from actor Jason Segal, via video. (she and her mom saw his movie on Sunday, says she's a huge fan of his)
She ends the show with You and I by Lady Gaga. Not bad for a Gaga song. Starts off playing the piano, then grabs a mic and moves around the stage. Idol pulls no punches with this production, they fill the stage with guitar players and a horn section. Really selling this.
But Elise doesn't need all the window dressing. She carries this very well on her own.
Randy: America, Elise is back! Perfect time for that vocal. You needed a moment and I think you got it tonight!
J-Lo: You did exactly what you wanted to do. Let go but remained in control. No one sings like you. You're our closer!
Steven: You turned it into genius. Laid a beautiful vocal over it.
Seacrest: Elise is back!
I think they want Elise to stay, LOL
I think her problem with her being in the bottom 3 so much is she having a hard time with finding a fan base because she is all over the place when it comes to picking songs. One week it is R&B, the next week it is a ballad, then rock, then pop, etc. She has got to pick a groove like Cookie did and make them all pop/rockers regradless of the music genres, or James Durbin going with metal versions, or like McCreedy did making them all country. IMHO if she had started out with Power Ballad/Rock style she would be ok. She did great on “Whole Lotta Love” and could have swung the rocker vote.
Anyway Haley Reinhart did “You And I” last year and did a pretty good job with it also. Haley went more with the chorus after the break and was much more bluesier with her version. I don't think Lady GaGa did Haley any favors doing it as a live feed the next night on the results show because everyone would be comparing Haley's 2 minute version to the GaGa’s full version. The main thing I remember about Haley was reading in a trade sheet that year was that her AI/Yourtube performances were pulling in like a gazillion views in a couple of weeks.
I am still tripping that she beat out James Durbin for top 3. (Paging Chris Daughtry pick up the white courtesy phone please) But hey at least Judas Priest made an AI appearance and that was so cool. Never in a million years did I think I would see them on AI,
I like Colton and Phillip but they are really going to have to step it up if they want to stay in this. I wish Erika could have made it further she has a real nice voice also.
