I was just introduced to Pumped Up Kicks recently and it did disturb me. I learned that the guy had made money from writing catchy jingles so I think it was intentional: to write a song from the point of view of a school shooter, and to write it in the bounciest, sweetest, catchiest melody. It’s really pro school shooting and it really could be the inspiration for a lonely bullied boy one day. I sort of like it but I do feel it is irresponsible. It would be better if it ended with him getting his just desserts, getting shot himself or jailed.
