Being a former Marine if these guy's did this and posted it themselves they deserve whatever punishment they get. After the bad publicity caused by Abu Ghraib they should have known how this would go down. I completely understand why they did this but they should have took precautions to be sure it never got out into the public domain. Extraordinary lack of judgment!! Having said that I hope their punishment is fast and they are not judged too harshly for their mistake.
In the Roman mind there were two types of military virtue - often seen to be at odds - “virtus” or manliness/bravado and discipline.
These troops, in an excess of “virtus” - lost essential discipline, and created a PR victory for the enemy.
They should be disciplined, for excess “virtus”, for loss of discipline, for inadvertently aiding the enemy - and for the blatant stupidity of doing it on film and posting the film online.
