I wonder if there are enough freepers interested in programming as a hobby to make it worthwhile for me to start a blog and teach a basic course in programming micro-controllers?
I think I could manage to do it, I’d estimate total cost of tools and parts to be less than 20.00
It would be C and assembly language....both are really simple and the average freeper would have NO problem. (I hold that the average freeper is well above the average citizen in brains and ability)
That could be interesting. I gave up after fortran, cobol, pascal, and a bit of c. I learned basic on an old vic20 hooked up to a 13" b&w television set - I thought I was an astronaut when I coupled it to a thermal okidata color printer and replaced the cassette drive with a floppy the size of a microwave.
I’m interested. I’ve been developing software since 1996 in c++, Java, SQL, etc. Even though I have some good experience there is always something to learn!
That would be great if you could pull it off... a blog-based tutorial on C / C++.
If you do I’m in - if and when I can find the time. I’ve got 25+ years coding on everything from 8 bit micros to IBM big iron. Assembly, BASIC, Fortran, Ada, C, C++, Java, bash, you name it...
I would be interested.
I’d be interested. Built some PC’s back in the early 90’s, thought about programming but took classes on networking instead. It’d be fun to do.
C is the backbone of two other top languages today C++ and Java. Assembly is the language of the computer.
This will put us freepers way ahead on the technical curve.
I do java programming, but have taken a few C classes but haven’t kept up with it.
I’ve always wanted to do a few ‘close to the metal’ projects and have looked at Arduino boards as a way to start. I’d follow your blog if you put it together.
I don’t really have any professional need for it, but it would be fun and different.
Now, C. That could be quite useful.
If someone knows C, then they know javascript for browsers, C Sharp/C++ (except for OOP) for stand alone programs, etc.
If they can master the fundamental structures of C, all the For, while, do, if, variables etc, then they got it made as far as any other language goes. Small leap from there.
