The cops said they did all they could legally do and that the two who didn't get arrested were walking toward the beach when they left. Here's what the local paper is reporting:
A deputy who saw them there 15 minutes after Blakey's arrest again approached them and advised them to move on, because a motorcycle group had rented the pavilion and the deputy believed the potential for trouble was high.
{so much for going to the beach like the cops reported as they are now at the SE corner of the parking lot}
"Both advised they were going out on the beach to sober up and then bond out their friend Blakey," Sgt. Scotty Osborne wrote in a statement about two hours after the 1:10 p.m. fatal crash Saturday that killed Donna Chen, a 53-year-old mother of three while she jogged on Midnight Pass Road.
Dear lord. They were going to the beach to "sober up" carrying a bottle of whiskey and then they were going to bond their friend out? How long does it take to "sober up" when your blood alcohol level is where it was with these two and you have a bottle of whiskey under your arm? How were they going to bond their friend out if they weren't going to get into a car? So many chances to stop the tragedy.....
At first I was sad but now I'm angry. Given the attitude towards this by the Sheriff's office and the County Commissioners, history will be allowed to repeat itself.
The dog was found 1/2 mile out in the gulf. They think he entered the water just north of Point of Rocks, but they don't know for sure. The fact that he was bleeding, and that far out, makes him one lucky pup that some bull shark didn't come along and turn him into lunch.
OMG, I never even considered sharks. And the fact that the dog was frightened and agitated made him even more of a target. firmly believe that animals can sense when a person, or another animal, is/are frightened and are vulnerable. Thank you so much for providing all the additional information on this very sad case.
