I suspect that this response will be subject to much vilificaiton. Nevertheless, here goes:
In 2008 I argued in favor of Romney because I thought McCain was a disaster waiting to happen - that turned out to be correct and we have Obama now as a result. I fully agree that Romney is not a Conservative in any sense of the word. The question has alway been and continues to be: what separates Romney from Obama?, and assuming that there is a significant difference, can our (once?)great nation maintain its fundamental character through four more years of Obama.
The following are just a very few of the actions that Obama has taken that help to define who he is and what he likely to do in the future. I maintain that there are no comparable “Romney actions” that would put Romney in the same category with Obama:
1) Most recently Obama has literally attacked the integrity of our constitution with his recess appointments. There is no precedent in the history of our country for such brazen lawlessness - but it follows a machiavellian pattern that characterizes Obama’s entire term, including passage of Obmamcare. If he can get away with it, he will do it - damn our system of government. Romney, while having espoused liberal causes in his career, has worked through the system and, to my knowledge, does not have a record of actively attempting to subvert our system of government.
2) In Obama, we have an individual has actually cavorted with KNOWN terrorists and knowingly associated himself with the likes of Jeremiah Wright. For me this is an indication of Obama’s sympathy with a strict anti-American ideological point of view. Obama is smart enough to hide his true beliefs, but his past associations and actions speak more about who he is than his current politically motiviated words. This is a man who has said that when civil right decisions and legislation became law that an opportunity was missed when reparations were not awarded. Once again, Romney is very far from a true conservative, but there are no similar Romney incidents in his past - and that could make a tangible difference in the next four years.
3) My Dad is a liberal who is opposed to opportion. He tried to maintain in 2008 that there would be no practical difference between McCain and Obama on abortion since Roe v Wade is in place. He now recognizes how wrong he was. Obama has done more to advance the cause of abortion than any other president. There is no question that more babies have died under Obama than would have under McCain. Hell, Obama has even sent money overseas to advance the abortion cause. Romney has blown around with the wind on this issue. But there is NO QUESTION in my mind that more babies will be killed under Obama than Romney. Obama’s position on the Infant Born Alive legislation is beyond radical - and then he brazenly lied about it.
The above are only a very few examples. The bottom line is that, based on their past ACTIONS, there is a yawning divide that separates Obama and Romney.
