Saying it doesn't make it so.

For the vast majority of human history - back when fat people were almost unheard of outside a few sedentary aristocrats - humans gained the vast majority of their dietary calories through carbohydrates.

A healthy person eating a healthy diet should get the majority of their calories through carbohydrates.

This “mentality” is based upon knowledge of human history, anthropology, biochemistry, and hundreds of years of observation.

Compared to that we have one dead Dr. and a fad diet and its fanatical adherents claiming that because they were obese and lost weight on a restrictive diet then EVERYBODY should do the same - even if they are at a healthy weight.

They are the anti-vegitarians; just as self-righteous and pig headed in their near religious devotion to a restrictive diet they think everyone should adhere to.

Agriculture has only been around for approx. 10k yrs compared to 2.5M yrs for the Homo genus.

It seems to me we are far better adapted to eating meat/fish then products of agriculture (i.e. carbs).

Sure, back when cavemen frequented McDonald's. Just read Atkins' book or any other of the many low carb books. I'm not asking you to change your way of thinking but just read the books.

I'm just wondering: where do you think Paleolithic man (and even more primitive ancestors) get all these carbs? They certainly didn't eat grains or other cultivated crops. I imagine they got most carbs from fruit, but away from the tropics fruit is only seasonally available. The rest of the diet was veggies, mammals, birds, insects, fish, crustaceans, & mollusks. I think we are not adapted well to the modern high-carb diet derived from cereal grains.

I would respectfully disagree with you here. Before agriculture became the norm-we were hunter gatherers. This meant a diet high in protein, along with foraged foods such as nuts berries and wild growing fruits/veggies.

In uncivilized tribes still today, hunting/gathering is the main source of food in remote village tribes. Very low obesity there and almost no carbs.

Until very recently, eskimos existed on almost exclusively whale meat and blubber, seal meat and fish since veggies/grains could not be grown in permafrost and ice. It was not until western style carbohydrates were introduced into their diets that obesity and heart disease entered their world.

I do agree that whole grain carbs are good for you due to the fiber content not affecting blood sugars negatively, but to say that carbs were the mainstay of most in human history is incorrect.

Thank you! I couldn’t put it better. Now, please pass me the butter for my baked potato...
