Looking at mine right now...date on frame above cylinder. Serial number under the frame, front of trigger guard and on cylinder right where it was shaved. FWIW.

If it doesn’t have any IMPORT marks on it (e.g., like R&R Guns, etc) I’d pay that for it. I have a thing for Lanyard Ring Pistols.... (If you buy it and ever want to sell, let me know)

Well, I went and looked the Webley over.
No import marks, All serial # match, manufacture date is 1918.

Bad news is it is a refinish.
I talked him down to $400

I really want it, even if the price is a bit high.
I took it out to shoot with some modern HP ammo.
1st shot was fine, but then the cylinder failed to rotate (something with the half moon clips)
Opened it , closed it and it rotates fine.
2nd shot was fine, but again with the failure to rotate.
opened it and closed it and got the same thing.
then after the 3rd round was expended I had to fool with the ammo in the moon clips to get it to go back in the cylinder.

Such a shame. The thing is beautiful, but if its collectors value is gone AND I have to tinker with it to shoot it its of no use to me.

I passed.

Thanks to everyone for their input.

Such a shame.....Hell, I’d still buy it for myself and never shoot it, but I’m sentimental that way....

If you can get it for $250 or under it would be a fair deal. Unaltered guns are valued between $600 and $200 depending on condition and conversion to 45 reduces this by half.

Where are you seeing prices like that? I would love to know, because I've been looking for a .45 ACP Webley conversion for several years, and have never seen one priced that low, or seen one sell for that little at auction.

Don't mean to be a nit-picker, but, IMO, you should have tested it with nothing more than wad cutter target loads (reduced power). That would have more closely matched the pressure of the loads this pistol was designed for.
Case expansion caused the cases to back-up and fouled cylinder rotation.
But I guess you know this already...;)

Well, I wanted to use Winchester white box, but the moonclip was already loaded with this fancy stuff.

The shop owner insisted, “the ammo’s on me”
What could I say? He had already knocked $125 off the price.

Maybe I will look again if its there after Christmas.
*I really want it*

I do think you are right.
It sure is pretty, and it was a hoot to shoot.
Plus I am just a sucker for classic fire arms.
