The police sounded like they were pretty tech savvy. He should have tried to hide a toaster and see if they would have seized that also. Something like, “don’t touch that radiant wave broadband router there, it’s very delicate and shouldn’t be moved”.

Rest easy: This is mostly for show to demonstrate that the gov takes the leaks seriously. But in reality they do not really want to apprehend the culprit(s) because they would need to charge them with some crime or other. This would likely produce a ‘trial of the century’ in which the defendant would be branded as the worst criminal since (fill in the blank), while being hailed as hero by skeptics aroudn the world. Famous lawyers would rush to be chosen to defend the case. And here is the rub: The media would be forced to cover the case, and this is the last thing the gov wants.

This is what happens to you if you violate teh left-wing orthodoxy.
The GlobalWarmists are powerful.
A ton of money has flowed over the years for research to support the AGW argument. Practically no government money has been spent on opposing research.
Careers in science and government have been built around the AGW myth. This has gone on for about thirty years, so it is fully incorporated into government, journalism, “science”, “scientific” journalism, academia.
If not for the internet, they would have succeeded in steamrolling all of the western governments into submitting to UN control, a huge “spread the wealth” scam, and the socialist’s dream of government running industry.
So now, when they feel threatened by the sources on the internet, they are out to silence them, either by legal action or by intimidation. To them, it’s a matter of survival.
I’m sure they have visions of a rapidly shrinking empire as AGW skepticism has increased. How can climatologists pay for all their glorious research, all of the field instruments, the lab work, the computer modeling, the flitting about the globe to attend various conferences. And kiss all of those awards goodbye. All of that recognition. Those honoraria for speaking engagements.
They’ll have to give up their prime offices, fire their large staffs, and move back into a janitor’s closet. At parties, when they tell people they are climatologists, it will just elicit yawns.
