I am not Mormon so someone please correct me if I am wrong, but I believe being prepared is a part of the teachings of the Mormon faith. Even before ideas of terrorist attacks, they were taught to be prepared for an event. It isn't just the Mormon faith, though. Didn't Joseph advise Pharoah to build storehouses for grain? It only makes good sense to be prepared for hard times, and having enough food to get through the winter and into the Spring was just basic survival for Americans not so long ago.

Good point Joe - thanks. I have a very well stocked pantry - I buy rice and pasta whenever on sale and have other long shelf life items as well.
