LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Harry Morgan never planned to be an actor, yet he spent 10 years on one of the top TV series of all time, made 50 films and appeared on Broadway. He became one of the best-known character actors in Hollywood.
But it was Morgan's portrayal of the fatherly Col. Sherman Potter on "M-A-S-H" for which Morgan became most famous, and he knew it.

wow. I didn’t realize he was still alive.
He was pretty hilarious as Major Potts in What Did You Do In The War Daddy?... a dumb, funny movie.
Thanks for all the great shows, Harry. You were always welcome on my TV.
Prayers for his family and loved ones that they know how much we ALL loved him and will miss him.
Ya, but what was his NAME on “Dragnet”?
.....Sgt. Joe Friday’s loyal partner in later “Dragnet”
Not just on MASH but also on Dragnet. He was Friday’s second sidekick.
Was in several of my favorite comedies: “Support Your Local Sheriff”, “What Did you Do In The War, Daddy?”, and had a role in “The Shootist”, one of the Duke’s best.
“Never insult seven men when all you have is a six shooter,” Col. Potter. RIP.
RIP Col.
He also did a bunch of Disney movies....like The Apple Dumpling Gang! I loved that voice:)
aw..sad.
